Ishamael wasnt always connected to the dark one . he was a male wielder of the power before he turned to the dark one . when he turned and became one of the chosen he was connected to the dark one so the taint wouldnt drive him mad.REMEMBER the male forsaken were connected to the DO because he wanted to keep them sane. before the dragon broke the world i am assuming that there was no need to be connected to the DO because there was no taint on the power. after the breaking the connections were made. i assume that the connection was forkeeping the men sane, but also so the DO could keep tabs on his followers.since ishy was cut off from the DO then could he be acting as a wild cardin the DO's big plan.ishy was already mad when the series started because he was only half trapped .could that have something to do with anything?the main point is : if ishy was cut off from the DOthen the DO should be able to reconnect him just like the first time. REMEMBER "the dark one always reward his loyal followers" who is more loyal than ishy?

1998-06-07 I would agree, one function keeps the one power clean of the taint.

1998-07-24 Actually, I doubt that the cord was originally there to keep them sane. I would speculate that it was on all of the forsaken, and was a way of keeping them linked to the DO. The black cord is there because it is a way of drawing the true power, not the one power (incidentally from the "true source"). However, after the seals were created I beleive that (since saidar was not used in their creating it wasn't corrupted by them) saidar was trapped with the DO and subject to his influence. The black cord may have been a way to safely draw saidin around the seaals (essentially avoiding the taint). Since it makes (some) sense to put it here, why, if Taim is Deamandred, does the black cord notappear?
