Q: Why did the Aes Sedai become so subservient to every other group?

A: The Aes Sedai were being forced to be subservient according to the circumstances and couldn't really help it.

Q: Is the Eye of the World a Well? Can it be refilled? Why or why not?

A: Yes and no. It's in the same class of objects as a well, but on a different scale. No, it can't be refilled. Remember, lots of Aes Sedai died to make it. Look, a normal well is like this water glass. The Eye is like a liquid nitrogen canister.

Q: Are wells made with opposite half of One Power that they contain, like Rand at Shadar Logoth?

A: [sly smile] No, they don't work like that.

Q: why Egwene would want to change an iron chain into cuendillar?

A: He responded that iron doesn't TURN into cuendillar, iron is the base of cuendillar. He said that the links of the chain fuse together and become a solid piece. Thus making the chain impossible to raise, lower, or remove. This prevents boats from entering AND leaving Tar Valon. It then became obvious that this was a way for Egwene to succesfully siege the island without using the One Power on anyone (as Lord Gareth wanted)

Q: What is Jordan's favorite scene in the series

A: Somebody asked what his favorite action scene in the series was. RJ replied that although it wasn't necessarily an ACTION scene, his favorite scene in the series, and the one which represents the best of his writing, is where Rand goes into Rhuidean to view the history of the Aiel through the eyes of his ancestors. His definition of a Hero is a person who keeps going, no matter what, despite being afraid.

Q: What is the tune/lyrics to Jak o' the Shadows?

A: According to RJ, "Jak o' the Shadows" should be sung to the Garryowen, which is the official march of the US 7th Cavalry. Here are the lyrics: Jak o' the Shadows (Band of the Red Hand version) We'll drink the wine till the cup is dry, and kiss the girls so they'll not cry, and toss the dice until we fly to dance with Jak o' the Shadows. We'll dance all night while the moon runs free, and dandle the lasses upon our knee, and then you'll ride along with me, to dance with Jak o' the Shadows. We'll sing all night, and drink all day, and on the girls we'll spend our pay, and when it's gone, then we'll away, to dance with Jak o' the Shadows. There're some delight in ale and wine, and some in girls with ankles fine but my delight, yes, always mine, is to dance with Jak o' the Shadows. We'll toss the dice however they fall, and snuggle the girls be they short or tall, then follow young Mat whenever he calls, to dance with Jak o' the Shadows.

Q: Could a non-channeler learn to sense or channel through meditation? What are the ratios of channelers to non-channelers?

A: There were indeed people in his world that sought Enlightenment in such ways, but no, that channeling was related to genetics. He went onto say that he estimates that the Age of Legends had about 2-3% of the population able to channel in one way or another, while in the modern world that number is down to about 1%.

Q: How did the Forsaken learn the "New Tongue"?

A: If you can speak the Old Tongue, learning to understand and speak the new "Vulgar" tongue is not that difficult. When the Forsaken are together having their meetings, they speak in the Old Tongue.

Q: What language do modern-day Sharans speak?

A: Modern-day Sharans speak a form of the Old Tongue in their everyday speech. The exact analogy he used was a Roman landing in modern day Italy and having to figure out Italian from Latin. For someone extremely bright and well-educated like the FS it wouldn't be that hard. This is also consistent with information in the books. The Old Tongue is more complex, so learning the Vulgar from Old Tongue is much easier than vice versa. It also gibes with Graendal's thought while she is writing a letter that the modern script was so easy to learn and duplicate.

Q: Did Ishamael come to Lews Therin Telamon's palace in the prologue of Eye of The World to kill him?

A: No. To taunt him with his defeat. Ishamael would much rather have had Lews Therin alive and suffering from the knowledge of defeat, not to mention the murder of his wife and other blood kin, than simply dead.

Q: Did the Dark One order Asmodean's death? If not, how does he know about it in the prologue of Lord of Chaos?

A: No, he didn't order Asmodean's death, but he knows a great deal about what goes on in the world, though it isn't complete knowledge.

Q: Can Slayer somehow find his victims?

A: Not in the sense that Padan Fain can track Rand, and to a lesser extent, Mat and Perrin. Slayer's value lies in what you might call his unique ability for someone unable to channel.

Q: At the end of Crossroads of Twilight, did the Aes Sedai know immediately who Egwene was? Or did they find the Amyrlin's stole, and thus conclude that she was important?

Q: What happens to objects left in Tel'aran'rhiod? Could an AS free herself from the Three Oaths in Tel'aran'rhiod by creating an Oath Rod?

A: The only way for an object to enter Tel'aran'rhiod would be for it to be carried there by someone who entered physically rather than through a dream state. If left there, it would remain until it was retrieved by someone else who entered physically. And, yes, an Aes Sedai could free herself of the Three Oaths with an Oath Rod created in Tel'aran'rhiod, but remember that relatively few sisters actually have access to the World of Dreams, and for those who do want to remove the Three Oaths ? sisters joining the Black Ajah ? there is the Oath Rod in the White Tower to serve that purpose.
