📁 Is Callandor Flawed? 👤 Neworld 📅 1999-04-02 💬 4 replies
The fact that Cadsuane knew this and no other living AS knew really pisses me off. Don't you think the one most obvious sign to sign all the DR's coming, would be a pretty important and studied item, even if it has been a long time waiting for Rand. There is evidence to this b/c Cadsuane read it in the library. Some Green or brown must also have known this and studied it. Moi had no clue, as much as she studied and prepared for this? Yeah right. So, Rand has to choose to allow himself to not only link with 2 women, but allow one or maybe both to control the flows and link. Somebody he would trust with his life.(Don't even say Egw. If RJ has that happen now that she is Amrylin, HA) My bet, is that if this is ever used again it will be by Logain. POD-some black coated man (forgot the rank) said- "Logain, the M'Hael will not be happy. That is the second one you've taken." Logain and the Ashaman are bonding or compelling the captured AS from Eliada. And Logain has two tame ones willing to do whatever he commands. Like say,"Hey, link with me and control the flows but please follow my instructions as to how you weave it and what you do. No, no, clean up the bathroom and kitchen first, then do the wash and make my lunch. Then we can go.

Interestingly enough, I think Cadsuane's word will backfire on her. I think she pulled the flawed idea out of the air, but when you consider Logain using it... Both AS are bonded to him already, so in essence he will still control the flows, there will be no struggle. So if she is lying, she will still eat her meddling words.

The three-way link plan had two purposes. Firstly it is intended to mitigate the effect of the taint, which has since been removed. Secondly, Callandor is unbuffered (this is the flaw) which can be quite dangerous. When channelers link, a similar kind of buffer is formed which in this case can serve as a proxy protection. The interesting thing is that since Callandor is unbuffered, it's power draw capabilities may be nigh unlimited when used by a single male channeler. A fact which will doubtless come in handy at the climax of Tarmon Gaidon.

@Dovien...surely though, as it's unbuffered, way too dangerous for use by a single male channeler (drawing too much, risk of burn out/death etc)?

True that the use of Callandor by a single male channeler is morbidly dangerous, however imagine the sheer amount of power LTT used on himself to create Dragonmount, magnified by use of Callandor, and directed against the DO. Without a buffer, Callandor would continue to magnify even the already amazing amount of power that can be drawn in a suicide attack.
