OK, like many I have suspicions that Moridin is Ishamael. It seems obvious. For instance Moghedien mentions in CoS, just before she tries to kill Nynaeve on the boat, that Moridin's favorite colors are black and red, colors that featured prominently in Ba'alzamon's wardrobe. In fact, the sheer wealth of hints in that direction lead me to suspect that Jordan has tossed us a red herring... I have no real proof, but it's not like RJ to give something major like that away so easily. Now, that leaves the question of Moridin's identity. Indeed, the simplest answer may be true: Moridin is Moridin. I doubt he is another Forsaken, as Osan'gar and Aran'gar narrow down the list of possibly reincarnated Chosen (assuming balefire puts them beyond the Dark One's reach). Perhaps some Dreadlord of the Age of Legends? Also, here's a twist on the Ishamael theory, he is Ishamael, but not Ba'alzamon. There has never been actual, concrete proof that the Heart of Dark was Ishamael, and I will! not 100% believe it until RJ says so. Regardless, Moridin is probably currently my favorite villain (I can't wait to see him and Rand duke it out... did someone say something about Pay-per-View?), and, as the curtain is slowly drawn back on his identity, don't be too surprised when he's not what you think.

1999-01-11 I like your 'red herring' supposition. To go along with what you are saying, don't you thin that the Forsaken would have some idea of who he was? Those who plotted, killed, and worked with him? Just a couple of ideas, because I really believe...
