Errrm hello people.... why would Moridin, Ishamael, Shaidar Harnan, the watcher, Aran'ger Osan'gar or any other evil character save Rand's life? True whoever it was's words do sound a bit shadowy but so what- quite a few of the good characters have talked about 'rand not being allowed to die just yet' (including Rand himself). Logain would be a better bet.... but then there's the fact that Rand couldn't see the fows of power as well as since when did Logain learn to make Balefire? Mazrim Taim- maybe, but personally I think Mazrim is nobody special and definantly not a forsaken in disguise. Therefore, unless this mystery guy is not a new character whom we have not yet met (which is another possiblity), I would have to go for...... Asmodean. The details of Asmodean's demise were allways a little hazy: I think there is only one line at the end of FOH (sorry I havn't got the book with me). No longer connected to the dark one, Asmodeans best hope and only would be with his one time student. Put it this way there's was no body and no balefire: Asmodean is alive and about to come back.
