Voices in their Heads

📁 What will Cadsuane teach Rand and the Asha'man? 👤 Lebo 📅 1998-10-09 💬 2 replies
The dust jacket of PoD makes mention of the ashaman showing signs of madness. now it is obvious that rand can't have mad ashaman running around and i don't think he'll just kill them. secondly how is rand managing to hold off the madness. how did logain manage to hold off the madness for six years. thirdly assuming that he is not demandred, how did taim hold off the madness for Fifteen years. now let us think back to a question Cadsuane asked rand "have you begun to hear the voices" i think Cadsuane will teach the ashaman about the voices they hear. after all rand does not seem to hear lews therin's voice after he has ACCEPTED being the DR. Cadsuane will teach them to accept the voices as Rand did and she will teach them to hold off the madness. another reason i believe this is beacuse prophecy suggests that the ashaman will balance the servants after the "great battle" (the prophecy i think Nicola had about rand, elayne, min aviendha and the return and the world being balanced on the edge of a blade).

I lean towards this idea more, that what the Asha'man will be taught will have to do with the origins of the voices they hear.

I believe that the first sign of male-channeler insanity "voices" is due to a prolapse in Tel'arhan'riod. Notice how the world of dreams recycles heroes well it could also recycle the souls of male-channelers due to the Dark One's taint. The problem is that it "prolapses" these souls onto (or into), the souls of living male channelers, thus driving them insane. As to the physical rotting of the body, I have no rational explanation. Yet, since the Dark One obviously has a great deal of control over death I feel that this rationale is not that crazy, (it may even make a little sense).
