📁 What is Verin's 70 Year Plan? 👤 Mike 📅 1998-08-21 💬 2 replies
Not that I agree or Disagree with Verin being Corianne Sedai, But, If an excuse needs to be made for her or any other Aes Sedai that may still be around after even a 1000 years, there are plausible explanations. One, for instance, is that in The Great Hunt, page 217, Hardcover, Rand, Hurin (shienieran sniffer) and Loial are in the "Mirror world" throught the portal stones where they meet Selene (Lanfear). Selene tells them where they are and that time and distance work differently in some of the Mirror worlds so that 1 day in the mirror world might equal 1 year or even 20 years in the Real world. She also stated that the Aes Sedai studied the Mirror Worlds. Verin, obviously obsessed with knowledge, Might have been one of those studiers. If she spent any amount of time in a mirror world, she might have come out several hundreds of years later. Although Verin might not be Corianne, she, or someone else, might be that old.

Hmmm...that's a great thought. If you went in once and noticed that 20 years passed in that one day, then you could go back and return everyonce in a while...so is Rand going to meet himself in one of these worlds before this is over?

I think Mike (?) had a good point regarding Verin's possible use of the Traveling stones in order to live a longer-than-plausible life. She does seem to have fairly extensive knowledge of them(she knows the meanings of several symbols, including those which alter the flow of time). I picked this up while re-reading the Great Hunt. Something else I noticed, and this might be purely inconsequential, is that while urging Rand to Channel into the stone to take the group of hunters to Toman Head, Verin says "as my father used to say, its time to roll the dice" I know that this might just be a common phrase among gamblers, but in the context of Verin's decided interest in healing Mat, it is a little suspicious. Could she be even older that we think and be the Daughter of one of those men whose memories Mat has? Or could she be the child of Mat himself through some manipulation of time via the stones? I have nothing to back up any of these claims, and again, I might just be reading too much into her words. However, if such manipulations of life spans are possible, it could give creedence to Olver's role as a Young Gaidal Cain, waiting to be aged to perfection, so to speak. Just a thought.
