Perrin represents more than just a "two-legs" who can hunt with wolves. He is their link to Rand. Just as he is the Aiel's Car'a'carn, the Atha'an Mieres' Coramoor, and the wetlanders' Dragon Reborn, he is the wolves' Shadowkiller. If nothing else, he will tie them further to Rand, probably after he goes through some crisis where in he comes to peace with his ability. In my opinion, the power of the wolves as a society ranks with that of the Aiel, particularly when it comes to fighting "Neverborns" and the "Twisted Ones". Their hatred for Shadowspawn indicates to me that they will be a significant factor/force in one or more crucial moments of the story.
