I read somewhere something about the Rand, Mat, Perrin tripod in relations to some kind of mythology. In this, Rands duty is to fight the Dark One, Mat's is to fight the Trollocs, and keep them off Rand's back, and Perrin is supposed to be some kind of builder after Tarmon Gaidon. (i.e. hammer).
