Pertaining to Rand and the Last Battle, I just had a short theory about a possible outcome. Rand keeps saying that he will cleanse the taint from Saidin, yet he has failed so far to come up with a way to do it. What would happen if he used balefire on the Dark One during the Last Battle and used so much power in doing so that the Dark One was destroyed, and his tainting of the True Source never occured? There are several examples of how balefiring someone changed events. This of course raises the question of whether or not the Dark One could be killed (highly unlikely,I know), but everyone constantly warns about the use of balefire, and the consequences thereof.
