Here is another clue as to why I believe that Rand will not die:
The prophecies that mention that Rand will be marked twice with herons and twice with dragons also mention "twice to live and twice to die" could this not mean that he will die at Tarmon Gaidon, be brought back to life and then die of old age or something later on?

1998-06-03 I agree that it must mean something of the sort, but I just can't see RJ bringing Rand back if he dies. For what it's worth.

2010-10-22 <p>Couldn't Rand be stilled or Burnt out during the last battle then maybe Nyn use the source to cure him? Hasn't being still/gentled been used in reference to dying? So, if this were to happen, then Rand would "die" and live again..</p>
