I have a theory that Nynaeve is a Hero of the Horn spun out in this time.
First clue is the accepted test, we only have Egwene’s to compare to, as all the others are not viewed. I believe this Ter'angreal reads the pattern someway(“..bring you face-to-face with your greatest fears.”) otherwise why would it look into the past, present and future and create plausible scenarios. It would not be effective if it didn’t read possible threads and create situations that could tempt potential Aes Sedai
On the first entrance, they say “The first time is for what was.” Egwene’s experience is she and Rand are married, she can channel, but doesn’t know it, and Rand is going insane. Nynaeve is fighting Aginor in a situation that isn’t even close to modern reality(the maze, her understanding of battling Saidin, knowing how to channel so many different ways, overpowering a forsaken.) When this happens the Red sister says “You are washed clean of what sin you may have done and of those done against you. You are washed clean of what crime you may have committed, and of those committed against you.” Clearly pointing that this first entrance is supposed to show a possible outcome based on a past decision. Sheriam mentions that it is not supposed to be possible to channel the one power your first time through. (“You should not even remember being able to channel.”) TGH Ch. 23 Aginor was old like his appearance at the end of TEotW, but Nynaeve didn’t combat him at all. Rand and Moiraine where the ones that confronted Aginor.
In the second time through she is back in Edmond Field because she hasn’t embraced becoming an Aes Sedai yet. She still sees herself as a wisdom, and therefore the decision to maybe not enter for the third time and leave and go back to Two Rivers. Finally, she is married to Lan with a reference to old wonder girl Sharina and she does the unthinkable, she reforms the arch after it was already gone. They said “The way will come but once.” and she misses and just recreates it. Egwene’s experience is in TDR Ch 22. In Egwene’s experience it is clearly the scenario if she and Rand don’t leave Edmond’s Field. So, why would Nynaeve be combating Aginor in her past in a maze, while he look similar this is very different from her only experience with Aginor. Remember the first time is for what was. Nynaeve barely believes she can channel much less do all this. I believe that the arches read very far back in the pattern to a previous life she lived in the War of Power combating the Forsaken.
Second: Brigette first approaches Perrin then Nynaeve. (TSR 28, TSR 39, TSR52) She is noticed by Egwene, but does not approach her.(TSR 11) There is something about Nynaeve that makes Brigette trust her and it is not her being in Tel'aran'rhiod or she would not be so reluctant to talk to Egwene and the Aiel Wise Ones. Cain says that the “precepts” say not to talk to anyone that knows they are in Tel'aran'rhiod. I submit that it is because Brigette recognizes Nynaeve for a HotH, and wants to help in the fight against the shadow.
Third: Brigette says that she has few female friends, but the ones she had have tempers. This fits with Nynaeve, maybe they are tied together also by the Horn but less so than Cain and Brigette. (tFoH 37)
Fourth: They both use the same language about doing what needs to be done. The never consider what they do, to be brave, mearly a function of doing what needs to be done. Hawking said in TGH Ch 47 that it takes more than bravery to be tied to the Horn. Elayne remarks that
So if Nynaeve is tied to the Horn, it made me wonder who she is.. the only option I have is Eldrene ay Ellan ay Carlan the Queen of Manetheren that destroyed the Trolloc army with the One Power after Aemon’s death.(tEotW 9) Which could make Lan Aemon spun out again. She would not have used the arches for her test when she was becoming Aes Sedai because it was only found after the Trolloc wars. (TGH 23)
This is my first theory, so I apologize if it is not formatted correctly or needs more work. If it does need more please let me know and I will flesh it out.
