His BLOOD on the rocks of Shayol Ghul...

Some people recently asked me about Rand's bloodline. I'll try to describe it. As well as whose blood will be spilled on that cursed rock.

Rand's father was an Aiel clan chief, Janduin. From Janduin up that branch the names are unknown. Of Janduin's bloodline only Rand lives, so from this line Rand is the main candidate.

Of course, there's always the possibility that "his Blood" is the whole still warrior Aiel people; the Rhuidean Prophecy says that "he will bring you back and destroy you". And "the remnant of a remnant" would be those who gave in to the "Bleakness", a couple of still unborn Aiel children (Aviendha and Melaine have it "coming soon") and no one else. All the warrior Aiel sacrificed, the rest of the Aiel that were saved will be dedicated to peace once more until the Second Age and so on (a bit prolonged paragraph about how come the Aiel turn peaceful).

Enough for the Aiel.

Rand's mother is Tigraine of House Mantear.

Here comes a big fat droning.

As it is known, in Andor lords and ladies from the big houses are at least distantly related cousins, and when two nobles are from the same House, they are very closely related. The bloodlines are quite identical. Lord of Chaos, Ch. 26, Bloodlines, Elenia explains this in detail.

From that I understand that any descendant from House Mantear can be a fitting candidate for "sacrifice for man's salvation".

The living descendants, as far as we know.

From Tigraine: her sons, Rand al'Thor and Galadedrid Damodred.

Tigraine is dead and she can't be a candidate.

Galad, he "always does what is right"; a somewhat possible candidate. Someone else posted a lengthy explanation why Galad is a possibility.

Rand himself. There is fifty percent chance that HE will bleed there on that cursed mountain. The prophecies imply almost as much, and Rand, since KoD seems quite nonchalant about the outcome for himself.

Tigraine's brother, Rand's and Galad's uncle, is Luc Mantear, known among the highest Darkfriends, and to theorists, as Slayer. He's the other main contestant, I think. The Prophecies say "sacrifice", not "self sacrifice", and you know from other books, in history, other fantasy, etc. that you can offer something/someone else as "sacrifice". After all, being what he is, Luc surely deserves to be such a sacrifice.

Another possibility is the current High Seat of House Mantear, thirteen-year old Lord Perival/Pelivar (blood and bloody ashes, I can't stop confusing the two). Only, I believe that he has a bright future in front of him.

Shivan and Calian al'Thor. There's a whole theory already written why Shivan the Hunter and Calian the Chooser will turn out to be Rand's children. There's the possibility that Elayne will be brought to a choice who to keep - the children or their father (with him she can always make other). A nasty choice if this turns out proven in autumn 2009.

The whole lot of droning was to bring the main point up: I believe that it is Rand's own red fluid that will paint Shayol Ghul, not anyone else from his bloodlines. I HOPE it turns out to be Luc, but I KNOW it will be Rand.

This is the long and the short of it. And it's yours to decide whether to shred it to pieces or prove it right.

Sorry for the last "attempt" at "theory". I was ravenous and in a hurry to eat and...
