I have a theory about this,

Title: The Eye of the World

Chapter: Watchers and Hunters

Rand encountering a Fade

Thin, bloodless lips curved in a cruel smile, made more mocking by the smooth, pale skin where eyes should have been.

Title: The Eye of the World

Chapter: Whitebridge

Rand thinking

But even staring at the stones of the square he could still see the Myrddraal coming, a cat playing with mice, amused at their feeble efforts to escape

Than same page

General POV

Title: The Eye of the World

Chapter: Whitebridge

The Fade was just as startled. Its leisurely pace faltered in mid-stride. Its hand swept toward the hilt of the black sword hanging at its waist, but the gleeman’s long legs covered the distance quickly. Thom crashed into the Myrddraal before the black blade was half drawn, and both went down in a thrashing heap. The few people still in the square fled.

“RUN!” The air in the square flashed an eye-searing blue, and Thom began to scream, but even in the middle of he scream he managed a word. “RUN!”

Title: BWB

Chapter: The AoL – Myrddraal

Where Trollocs have a vile and violent sense of humor, Myrddraal have none.

By the “Wheel of time timeline” Watchers and Hunters takes place on Aine 16, then Whitebridge is Adar 4 or about 16 day between the two meetings, which I believe are the same Fade.

Now I have found conflicting data on the flashes.

Title: The Eye of the World

Chapter: Whitebridge

Thom crashed into the Myrddraal before the black blade was half drawn, and both went down in a thrashing heap. The few people still in the square fled.

“RUN!” The air in the square flashed an eye-searing blue, and Thom began to scream, but even in the middle of he scream he managed a word. “RUN!”

this quote implies that the Fade and Thom were on the ground in contact before the flashes appeared.

But

Malivar: If a Fades blade will not produce lighting except against other Thakandar wrought blades, and power-wrought blades, Why do Thom's daggers produce it when he attacks the Fade at Whitebridge?

R-JORDAN: thoms daggers did not produce the effect. It was produced before thom reached the fade.

Then later in the Stone of Tear

Title: The Shadow Rising

Chapter: Deceptions

“I am not thirsty,” she said in a pleasant melodious voice. She leaned forward, and the room was small enough for her to place a hand on his right knee. A chill rippled through him. “I wish a good Healer had been near when this happened. It is too late now, I regret.”

“A dozen Healers would not have been enough,” he told her. “A Halfman did it.”

“I know”

What else does she know? He wondered. Turning to pull his lone chair out from behind the table, he bit back an oath. He felt as if he had had a good night’s sleep, and the pain was gone from his knee. His limp remained, but the joint was more limber than it had been since he was injured.

Also

Title: The BWB

Chapter: AoL – Myrddraal

The smallest wound from any of these corrupted blades brings death to the victim; the wounds fester and will not heal without the aid of the One Power.

Now on a tangent that will become clear after the summary

Title: Knife of Dreams

Chapter: A Cold Medallion

Joline explaining about what happened

“Bethamin channeled. I’ve never seen before seen the weave she used, but for a few moments, until she lost the Source, she had sparks dancing all over the three of us.

For this theory, I’m using the information from the books as dogma, and ignoring RJ’s contradiction of facts, mainly cause I don’t know which is the ‘set in stone’ version.

My theory is that this Fade is a very early version of Shadar Haran on both occasions, and that the blue flashes that occur when Thom attacks him are the TP being used on Thom.

The quotes above say that ‘SH’ never got his sword out, and then suddenly Thom starts screaming as soon as the ‘eye-searing blue’ light appeared.

This to me implies that something else caused Thom’s pain other than a sword, mainly because Fades Thakandar made swords are slow death, if not immediately.

It didn’t bother to kill Thom, just gave him a blast of the Power, because it wanted Rand and Mat, and because it’s time away from SG would have been very limited this early.

Also both times ‘SH’ shows emotion / cruel humor at the situation.

It appears to be his knee joint that was injured.

When Bethamin channeled, there was a visible effect, the sparks, and this hurt the AS, so when ‘SH’ used the Power to hurt Thom, it created the ‘blue light’ that damaged his knee.

So that my opinion, on what happened with the blue light in whitebridge and the first appearance of Shadar Haran all in one go.

Have at it. :)
