I've looked around everywhere and have seen tons of theories on who Olver really is, but I've never seen the one I came up with. I believe that Olver is really Asmodean Reborn. Why? I'll tell.

Okay, let's look at the background. Mat is taking the Band to Tear so that Rand can hold a massive offensive on Illian behind Sammael's back. Mat has left Maerone and the boy, Olver. Then the Aiel come and try to kill Mat. He looked around his tent after the attack and saw the ropes cut in the fashion of a gateway. The gateway seemed to be the entrance of the Aiel into the camp. Then Olver pops up.

Now for my reasons for saying such a claim. First, who is watching Mat for the Dark One? All of the other main characters have someone close to them to watch them, be it a Forsaken or a Black Ajah or a Darkfriend. Mat desposed of the Darkfriend Aiel that was watching him. Now who? If Asmodean was reborn into Olver, then Mat would have someone watching him.

Next, who made the gateway? No Forsaken are shown to have connections with the Aiel, but three. Lanfear had connections, but she was busy trying to decieve Rand. Sammael did not know about Mat because no one was there to watch him. the only one left is Asmodean.

Now, where did Olver come from if he was supposed to be in Maerone? I know what you're thinking, "He just followed the camp." But, when Mat questioned Olver, Olver babbled on a great deal about how he did like the people and how they mistreated him and whatnot. Olver never once mentions how he actually got to be in the camp. It sounds to me like Olver was trying to avoid the question.

You also might be thinking, "How can Olver/Asmodean Channel?" Why couldn't he Channel? We see a female Channelling Saidin.

You might also ask, "Why does he still act like a child?" We saw Moghedien act like a mother in Salidar before she was captured. It would not be hard for Asmodean to impersonate a child.

We also know that the Dark One can play cruel jokes on his followers (e.g. Aran'gar) and that Asmodean looked rather handsome. It would be rather degrading for him to be a child AND ugly.

I believe that this theory actually solves some problems about Olver and Asmodean.
