The most basic idea for the series is that Sammael is still alive somewhere waiting for the other Forsaken to be wiped out. It would almost be a perfect ending for all the other Forsaken to finally be eliminated by Rand. Only to have pop up during Tarmon-Gaidon. Or for some other final battle, like a sword fight (In reference to Sammael being a blademaster).
